PROJECT SUMMARY

I created a Unity virtual reality mini-golf game. I created the VR headset and implemented the code for it. I created a landscape for the mini golf, as well as attached an arduino and gyroscope to a physical putter to send exact feedback to the putter in the game. I also created an interface where the screen shows how many shots have been taken per hole, and teleports the character to the next hole after the ball goes in.

WHY?

I did this as a exploratory ventures class project, and although it was a class project, I created my own idea for the game and the steps that I would take to complete it. I really enjoy the game of golf and thought that it would be fun to implement it into my own VR game.

HOW?

Throughout this project there were many hiccups with the code, connection, and inputs. Many of the obstacles that I overcame was by making sure the connection to the gyroscope was accurate, as well as calibrating the data that I received from the gyroscope.

WHAT?

Although the prototype is not 100% complete, the user is able to wear the VR headset and hold a physical putter that acts as a controller. The user is able to feel the physical connection of the putter to the one that appears on the screen in the game.

SO WHAT?

These results are important because it shows that the game is functional, however, not foolproof. There are many things that I need to iron out to make this project run smoothly, such as recalibrating the data so that the putter doesn't have any drift on the x-axis.

WHAT'S NEXT?

As of now, the only things that I wanted to do differently was to make an actual character in the game, rather than a sort of blob without arms. It would also be fun to add a walking component in the game, however, without another controller, this is difficult.

REFERENCES & ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I got most of my information from online forums that helped me sort out any issues that I ran in to. Also, my teacher, Adam McLain, was incredible in the way that he supported me and helped me troubleshoot any issues.

JUDGES FEEDBACK

This idea of playing virtual golf looks amazing. I would really like to try it our by myself.  I was wondering how you were able to provide the virtual world and actually have the user move to provide the virtual reallity. Thanks for presenting such a fun and innovative project.
